If you were reading after I took over the blog, you may be asking “what in the hell happened here?” We were all expecting regular content – including myself! If you weren’t already aware, I also write Feasting Fort Collins and run the entire Scoop Blog Network. The last 6-8 weeks have been interesting, to say the least. A national media company approached me to leave the network behind and form a new online platform. There were more meetings and negotiations than I ever expected to happen during this whole process. In these, I learned that there would never be room for Budding Fort Collins with this corporation.
There’s never room for candid cannabis content in any corporate publication (well, with the except for the Denver Post’s The Cannabist). And there’s not really a lot of people who are willing to write guest posts about their cannabis use for fear of negative repercussions. There’s still a significant amount of shame admitting you’re a cannabis consumer, even though it seems to be lessening some. The funny thing about the whole buy-out is that I never asked if I was going to be subjected to drug testing if they really wanted to hire me. I probably should have asked that first, because there’s no way I’m quitting. HA!
So, I was caught in the “too much on my plate, I can’t do it all” predicament, and had to put this blog on the back burner while this whole situation got…situated.
But, that’s not to say that I haven’t been gathering content for posts. Quite the contrary! I’ve been testing out some strains from local dispensaries. I’m going to write about what it’s like buying from Craigslist growers. I visited some Denver dispensaries to write about. And, I even sucked it up and bought edibles this last weekend, tested them out and will have that post in the hopper, too. It’s going to be a fascinating discussion, I’m sure.
So, there’s plenty to write about, and now there’s the time to do it again.
And, if you were disappointed that I had to pull out from the Ignite presentation, I don’t blame you. Thanks to a lovely case of H1N1 with asthma complications, I couldn’t do it. It’s unfortunate that Ignite never gave people a heads up about that (and we can speculate why), but I did hear (and confirm) that those who came just to see the spark about Budding Fort Collins and spoke up were given free tickets to the next event that I’ll be speaking at.
I really do care about cannabis in our community, writing to shed myths and shame, and I think it’s an important discussion to have. Just know that sometimes I might get overwhelmed trying to do it all, but I’ll try my best to keep up. Please hang in there with me! When not forced to “keep negotiations confidential” (as per this whole buy-out), you’ll be sure to find updates about my content schedule on Twitter and Facebook. And if you want to write a guest post, I would love to publish it! Hit me up at Kristin@buddingfortcollins.com.
I’ll have my next post published tomorrow!
